Prep Your Body For Vacation

We leave for Florida this week on a family vacation, and I am SO excited to feel that warm air and sunshine. Before leaving on vacation, I try to focus on prepping my body so that I can feel my best, relax and have some fun away.

I honestly think the most influential way to prep your body is through exercise, so let’s get straight to the point and start with my workout routine.

On a normal week, I work out 4-5 times even without vacay mode in sight. I like a mix of cardio and strength training. Lately I’ve been doing more strength workouts than cardio. I aim for 1-1.5 hours of cardio and 3-3.5 hours of weight training per week.

In addition to my workout routine, here are the ways that I prep my mind and body for a warm weather vacation. These are the practices I find work best for my physical and mental wellness, so you can try them all, or use for inspiration before your next trip!

Drink Water

I up my intake to about a liter a day a couple of weeks ahead of time. It helps with detoxifying, keeps you fuller longer and does so many good things for you skin. Add lemon and cucumber for some flavor or try water drops – love those!

Stop Snacking

Snacking, even healthy snacking, can stall weight loss and prevent you from losing those last few pounds. A few extra calories here and there add up quickly and can cause you to overeat unintentionally. Instead of snacking, sit down to a balanced meal three or four times a day. It is much easier to keep track of your consumption if you have distinct meal times.

Eat More Veggies and Protein

Eating more veggies and protein will ensure you get the nutrients you need while helping you lose body fat and build muscle.

Get Plenty of Sleep

Getting plenty of sleep will help you both look and feel good, so to prepare your body for your beach getaway, aim to get at least eight hours of sleep a night.

Get a Spray Tan

A spray tan is an absolute must before I travel. It just gives you a glowing appearance and I feel much better arriving at my vacation with a tan! I get my tan the night before I leave and then in the morning, I shower right before I head off to the airport. That way everything is fresh and ready to go.

Try on Various Swimsuits

Different swimsuits look great on different people! Your body might look incredible in a bikini, or there might be a one-piece that hugs you in just the right ways. Instead of grabbing an old swimsuit from the back of your drawers, try on various swimsuits and pick the ones that makes you feel your best, whether old or new!
