Achieve Stylish Summer Travel Outfits with This One Piece

How My Summer Travel Clothing Has Updated

When I’m traveling there are so many things that are on my mind from flights, rental cars, hotel reservations, dinner reservations, to sightseeing it can be difficult to create cute and stylish summer travel outfits.

Not only is there a mental capacity but there is only a limited amount of space in our luggage and each piece I pack has to be easy to wear, comfortable and stylish. There are a few exceptions of course like dinner dresses or outfits for fancy events but most in most cases my summer travel outfits are pretty easy breezy with minimal fuss and yet still stylish.

Now that I’ve traveled for about a year straight without ever going back home (not that we have a home anymore) I’ve learned what are the best things to pack, what pieces I continue to wear over and over and what items should be left at home. Throughout our travels I found myself leaving pieces I didn’t wear behind, either with a new friend or donating them to locals communities. I soon realized that I needed an easier wardrobe and less individual clothing pieces. Along the way, I bought more dresses and jumpsuits. Keep in mind that this is specifically for summer travel outfits, fall and winter get a little more complicated.

I will be creating the ultimate packing guide for every season but for now, we’re focusing on one season and one specific piece – the jumpsuit!

I didn’t start developing my appreciation and love for jumpsuits until we started this epic year of travel. As days, weeks, months passed I started looking for pieces that were easy to wear and didn’t require separates, dresses would fit into this category as well but for now, let’s focus on jumpsuits because they are not a clothing piece that immediately comes to mind.

Why Jumpsuits Are a Great Option

I’ll admit jumpsuits are a particular type of clothing. They can be a little intimidating and if not worn correctly they can make you look shorter, chubbier, or un-stylish which is the opposite of my goal here.

Jumpsuits make a great alternative to dresses and offer a little more chicness to your summer travel outfits. I have written a guide on how to wear a jumpsuit before so make sure you check it out!

There are two things I really love about jumpsuits and one fact that I hate. First, the two pros; jumpsuits are one and done, you only need some accessories, shoes and if it’s super sunny and hat. They are easy to pack, jumpsuits don’t take up a lot of room in suitcases and if the jumpsuits are made of wrinkle-free fabric you don’t need to iron them. Just take them out of the suitcase, hang them up and the wrinkles go away. Now the one fact I really dislike about jumpsuits, it’s not easy to go to use the restroom. Sucky but true.

Outfit Tips on Wearing Jumpsuits

So if you’re still reading this you’ve already worn jumpsuits or you’re thinking about giving jumpsuits a try for your summer travel outfits! Yay! Here are some quick style tips to keep in mind when shopping for jumpsuits and putting together your travel outfits.

Don’t Forget About Your Waist

Make sure accentuate your waist. Jumpsuits don’t inherently bring focus to the waist, some do, but if you notice that your waist gets lost in the jumpsuit add a belt. It can be a thick or thin belt depending on the style you are going for but make sure to wear a belt.

In the travel outfits below, I wore my pink jumpsuit with a thicker belt and I wore the blue jumpsuit with a skinny belt. You could also use a scarf as a belt for a different style.

Try a Subtle Pattern

I don’t wear jumpsuits with crazy loud patterns, they are overwhelming and not classy. I will either select a solid jumpsuit or a jumpsuit with a subtle pattern, like polka dots. And when you do select a pattern make sure that the size of the pattern is appropriate. For example; the I have two jumpsuits with a polka dot pattern. The pattern is very small and appropriate, they are not giant polka dots or of many different colors, keep it classy.

Simplicity is a Good Thing

You are traveling and the main reason I’m suggesting jumpsuits as a good clothing option for summer travel outfits is that they are easy so keep is simple. Wear comfortable sandals, a belt, a cute purse, and some stylish sunnies. If you love jewelry feel free to add bracelets and necklaces but don’t go overboard.

It’s Summer – Wear Color

Don’t be afraid of some color! If you’re a little daring opt for a jumpsuit in a bright color. Navy blue, black, dark olive green, are safe options but if you love color select one that compliments your skin tone.

For example; I’m fairly tan, so I know bold colors look nice against my skin tone, which is why I decided to wear a bright pink jumpsuit in Greece and a bright yellow jumpsuit in France. It fit the environment and they are fun! I stay away from pastel and beige colors, they don’t compliment my skin tone and I would never wear a jumpsuit in those colors.

It’s not that I look good in everything I wear, I know what to wear so I always look good! Be smart with your colors choices.

My Summer Travel Outfits with Jumpsuits

But if you want to know more about dressing for where you are traveling to just leave me a comment below!

Yellow Jumpsuit in Provence, France

The thought of France in the summer just brings a smile to my face and when I think happy I think yellow! It’s an added plus that we found a field of sunflowers!! We took these photos mid-August so we thought the beautiful fields of sunflowers and lavender would be gone but we were lucky enough to find one gorgeous field of sunflowers!!

I really liked this jumpsuit from Mango because it actually has a defined waist! I didn’t need to add a belt and it had large button detailing which gave it a little more structure and character.

Pink Jumpsuit in Mykonos, Greece

Ok, for this outfit I was hoping we would find the famous pink flowers in Mykonos and we did! I wore a very bright pink jumpsuit for this location because I wanted to stand out against the whitewashed walls of the island.

Navy Jumpsuit for Santorini, Greece

If you’ve done some research about Santorini you know it’s famous for those blue domes and whitewashed homes so for this summer travel outfit I opted for a navy blue polka dot jumpsuit! It fit perfectly against the backdrop and it’s so comfortable it feels like I’m wearing pajamas! For this outfit, I added a matching skinny belt, my Bali bag, and a scarf around my bun to add more color and interest to this subtle approach to a jumpsuit.
