Split ends are an equal opportunity nuisance. It doesn’t matter if you have long, short, textured, straight, or thick hair—they have a way of showing up. And we hate to be the bearer of bad news, but once your hair starts splitting, there is no possible way to mend it back together. However, there is some good news: There are things you can do to mask and prevent frayed ends to keep your hair looking its best in between trims. Ahead, we spoke with Devin Toth, hairstylist at Salon SCK in New York City, on what causes split ends, how to prevent them, and the best ways to manage them if they’ve already appeared.
