The Cambridges Echo Team Colors for Euro Football Match

The Duke, Duchess, and Prince George attended tonight’s big football match at Wembley Stadium.

It was the Euro Championship, and much of the nation was focused on the match. It has been 55 years since England won the tournament. Below, a quick video of a Red Arrows flyover before tonight’s match.

From The Daily Mail’s coverage:

An expectant nation is hoping Gareth Southgate’s side will claim England’s second ever major international trophy with around 60,000 fans cheering on at Wembley and millions more watching anxiously on screens across the country.

The prime minister called on Southgate and his ‘band of brothers’ to ‘bring it home’ while the Queen sent her ‘good wishes’ and praised the squad’s ‘spirit, commitment and pride’ in letters to Southgate on the eve of the final.

The Queen’s message was addressed to Gareth Southgate, manager of England’s team.

Moving back to tonight’s match, Emily Nash shared a clip of Prince George joining his parents in singing the national anthem.

The Mirror noted, “The royal family are among 60,000 fans packed into the stadium as the national team prepares for its first major final in 55 years.” Prince William is President of the Football Association.

The Mirror also reported, “The game, which is also being watched by Prime Minister Boris Johnson and his wife Carrie, began after an RAF flypast and performance by the Coldstream Guards band as part of a tournament closing ceremony.” Below, the Prime Minister and Mrs. Johnson.

There was elation as England scored early, making the fastest goal ever in a Euro final match. Below, players react.

Prince George was ecstatic. Chris Ship of ITV shared a video of him reacting to the goal.

Another view of the family.
The match was a nail-biter. After two hours of football, the score remained tied.

Ultimately, Italy prevailed and won the match in a shoot-out.

More from The NY Times.

Italy beat England in a penalty shootout to win the European soccer championship on Sunday in London, dashing England’s hopes of winning its first major title since the 1966 World Cup.

The shootout was a dramatic conclusion to a gripping day at Wembley Stadium that saw an early England goal by Luke Shaw, a second-half response from Leonardo Bonucci and then a whirlwind of highs and lows, misses and makes, before Italy prevailed, 3-2.

A message from Prince William.

Rebecca English of The Daily Mail shared a screengrab of the Duke, Duchess, and Prince George.

Now for our look at what Kate wore.

We begin with her Zara Waffle Knit Blazer, first noted during the Canada tour in October 2016, again at an 1851 Trust engagement in June 2017,  and again in November 2020.

It is made of a textured poly/rayon blend with a touch of Elastane and features angled front flap pockets, a welt pocket at the chest, three buttons at the sleeve hem, a single button closure, and a center-back vent.

Beneath the jacket, it looked like Kate wore her Lauren Ralph Lauren Cotton-Blend Puff Sleeve Top ($79.50).

The Duchess appeared to have on her Anderson’s Croc Effect Leather Belt ($160).

She accessorized with a new pair of earrings by Blaiz, a UK company. They are the Red Beaded Earrings ($93 / £65), described as “Red teardrop, statement beaded earrings.” Our thanks to Lauren for this fab ID!

It looks like the Duchess also wore her Stilla Lapis Lazuli Pendant (£160) by Astley Clarke, shown below when worn to a previous engagement.

You get a sense of how well the Cambridge family’s wardrobe echoed the official colors when seeing this photo of the team.
